Fairway's Beliefs |
Foundation
Fairway Christian Reformed Church believes that our world belongs to Godthe God who has made Himself known to us in the bible. He created the world out of nothing, and is now restoring it from the damage that the first human rebellion caused so long ago (the original sin of Adam and Eve), and that ongoing human rebellion (personal sins) is still causing. The most important instrument in this grand project of restoration is none other than God's own son, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to pay the price for human sin, and reverse sin's damaging effects on God's creation. To be redeemed from sin, one must believe that Christ has assumed our guilt, and that reconciliation with God is found in Him.
Specific Beliefs
Like the other churches in the Christian Reformed denomination, Fairway looks to six historical documents to articulate our thinking about God's relationship to humanity and the rest of his creation. There are three creeds (theological statements intended for use in worship), and three confessions (theological statements intended for use as teaching tools).
These are the three creeds:And these are the three confessions:
Beliefs about Worship
God created human beings to worship him, and to find their greatest joy in doing so. Sin turns us from that sublime task to the self-centered and self-destructive task of worshiping ourselvesour own desires, preferences, agendas, and priorities. When we are redeemed by Jesus Christ, our hearts are reoriented, by the Holy Spirit, to focus on God again, and corporate worship is one of the places in which that renewed orientation is lived out in singing, prayer, the giving of gifts, and the study of God's word. Worship is the church's most important task.
